Mike

I arrived at Budle Bay in 2011. My first impression was not very good as the old man running the site was not very pleasant to say the least. However, we put that aside an looked forward to a nice holiday in the tranquil location this campsite is set upon. While the kids paddled in the stream running through the site, we had a nice glass of wine enjoying the night... Until the owner told us we were making far to much noise and said we must go back to our tent. I was genuinely disgraced and embarrassed because I knew we were not creating a distraction and had never been told that before. Making matters worse, I arrived at the toilet ready to prepare for bed to find the foul smell of feces. I scanned the toilet floor and the once white tiles were smothered in what can only be described as human waste. I was truly appalled and took images to show the owner the next day. I couldn't wash my face as somehow, the feces had managed to get in the sinks. The toilets themselves were atrocious and the vast majority of lighting didn't work. There was only one toilet which the door shut and locked properly and wasn't concealed in a thick layer of grime and foul substances. First thing next morning I showed the owner my pictures and told him I expect it to be cleaned up immediately. My family visited the nearby castle for the day and when we got back to the campsite I was hoping for an improvement in the toilet department. I was again disappointed. At this point I was so angry that my children had to put up with this we left in an instance and refused to pay. I never set my eyes upon the showers but my wife said she couldn't use them because the condition they were in was horrific.

Warm Welcome

Stayed here over the Easter weekend, and started off really well with a lovely warm and genuinely freindly welcome by the Management staff on-site. The toilet and shower facilities are rather dated however, they were regularly cleaned and stocked with toilet paper and hand soap and, it transpires that new facilities are currently under construction which will be an improvement sadly, I do not think we will be returning until these new facilities are in place as both my husband and I had the unfortunate experience of having to take cold showers, not enjoyable at the best of times but even worse when the weather is rather inclement and temperatures in single figures! Lovely staff, pity about the lack of hot water.

Peaceful and unspoilt

Perfect location easy to find and just 200m from the sea. Ideal for visiting all the beaches in the area as well as Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle and Lindisfarne Island. Great flat field for camping and even in August it had plenty of space. The wardens were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble including charging your phone and hiring out maps. There is a small shop selling basics. The showers were nice and hot and toilet facilities in good condition. The site has eco sheds sleeping 5, touring caravan and tent pitches and a bunk house. A very relaxing and unspoilt campsite that I would definitely return to, as there is still so much to see in this beautiful area. Thank you for a wonderful 4 days.
